2011 Wage Adjustment

Memorandum

RE: 2011 Wage Adjustment

Recently, MITA was notified by the Cement Masons Local 514 that they, the Union, would like to take [Article].90 of the $1.05 increase that will go into effect on June 1, 2011 and put it into the Detroit and Vicinity Vacation and Holiday Fund.  Since the current MITA contract with the Cement Masons has language that suggests that the Vacation Fund is strictly voluntary (see page 15 of the agreement), the current contract would need to be amended to address this change.

The Detroit and Vicinity Vacation and Holiday Fund is a jointly administered Trust Fund (management and union trustees).  The [Article].90 Vacation Fund deduction would be handled just like all other fringe benefit contributions using the same fringe benefit contribution form that is currently in use.

Since this [Article].90 would be coming out of the already negotiated increase of $1.05 (the Union would like to place the other [Article].15 into the Health & Welfare Fund), MITA staff sees no significant drawback to agreeing with this amendment.  However, an official vote of those companies for which we hold Power of Attorney authority is needed.  Please indicate your vote on the attached ballot and return it by fax to the MITA office at (517) 347-8344 by Friday, May 21.
