It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Al Hardman, founder of Hardman Construction in 1979 and long time AUC/MRBA and MITA member.
Through determination, hard work, and fearless leadership, Al built a team of great employees, and the company flourished. What started out as a small excavation and piling operation eventually grew into a large, regional corporation under Al’s direction, specializing in geotechnical, bridge, excavation, and marine projects.
Al strongly supported industry associations and maintained tight ties with construction unions. His generosity was unmatched when it came to rewarding and making retirement contributions to his employees. Al’s passion turned to dog mushing in the 1990s, and he went on to complete four Iditarod dog sled races. Al eventually sold the company to the management team in 2005 and retired from the industry. He established charitable trusts to benefit the Ludington community, West Shore Community College, and his alma mater – Michigan Technological University.
MITA extends our sincere condolences to his wife, Carole, and to the entire Hardman family during this difficult time.
