GridHawk Seeks Input from Excavators

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving damage prevention across Michigan, we are asking for your assistance in providing direct feedback to GridHawk, one of the primary contract locating companies used by facility owners throughout the state.

Your field input is critical.

Every day, your crews interact with utility locators and rely on accurate, timely, and professional markings to perform work safely. You see firsthand what is working—and just as importantly, where gaps exist. This puts you in the best position to help drive meaningful improvements.

Why Your Feedback Matters:

  • Improves Marking Accuracy
Constructive feedback helps identify recurring issues with mismarked or unmarked facilities, leading to better quality locates over time.
  • Enhances Timeliness of Markings
Feedback helps address delays and reinforces the importance of on-time responses, ensuring crews aren’t waiting on locates and projects can move forward safely and efficiently.
  • Enhances Communication
Sharing both positive and negative experiences encourages stronger communication between excavators and locators—something we know is essential for safe operations.
  • Supports Accountability
When feedback is documented, it creates visibility for facility owners and locating companies, helping ensure expectations are being met.
  • Reduces Damages and Risk
Better locates directly translates to fewer utility strikes, improved worker safety, and reduced project delays.
  • Strengthens Industry Collaboration
Providing feedback reinforces the partnership among contractors, locators, and facility owners—all working toward the same goal: safe, efficient excavation.

This is not just about reporting problems—it’s about recognizing good performance as well. When locators are doing things right, that feedback is just as valuable and helps reinforce best practices.

We strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to share your experiences. Consistent, professional feedback from MITA members carries weight and can lead to real improvements in the field.

Let’s continue to lead from the front in damage prevention and safety.
