Below are MDOT’s comments they included when sending us the attached DRAFT Standard Plan R-49-G (new permanent median Concrete Barrier) for our review and comment.
“Attached is the first draft of R-49-G “Concrete Barrier”. This detail is subject to change as we do anticipate comments.
Please note the specification will call for high performance concrete (28-day minimum f’c = 6500 psi) to match the requirements of the crash tested Manitoba design.
This draft is not final but is at a stage that it can be shared for comment. Development of several other related standards will follow based on the this draft and any revisions to it.
The first project to utilize the new barrier will go in May.”
In various conversations MDOT had told us this new median concrete barrier can only be form cast, however, that requirement is not stated on this DRAFT Standard Plan. “Form casting” may be a stated requirement in the new SP being developed for this barrier that we will also distribute for comment as soon as MDOT gets it to us.
Please click here to review the DRAFT Standard Plan and return to us any comments you have.
In particular, provide us feedback on how you believe a “form cast only” requirement may potentially impact a project schedule and costs.
Return any comments you have by January 12, 2018.
