Each year in the spring, National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is held to bring national attention to motorist and worker safety in work zones. There was an anomaly of construction worker fatalities and injuries on Michigan roads in 2018 and the motoring public needs to hear from us. The key message is for drivers to use extra caution in work zones, and “Drive Like You Work Here” is this year’s national theme. The message “Drive Like You Work Here” will hopefully relate the motoring public to the construction workers place of business. Aiding motorists with the awareness of everyone that works behind orange drums as they pass through work zones is key to work zone safety.
To kick off the 2019 construction season, MITA, along with partners from the Michigan State Police, MDOT, ATSSA, MIOSHA and Consumers Energy are hosting a National Work Zone Awareness Week press conference event. The event will take place Monday, April 8, 2019, (11:00 a.m.) at Team Elmer’s – 3600 Rennie School Rd, Traverse City, MI 49685.
Please join us as we kick-off this important week to promote overall safety in our work zones. Feel free to forward this appointment to others that would like to attend.
Also, National Orange Day will be held on Wednesday April 10th, 2019. Wear your orange to promote worker safety.
