Wednesday, MITA Executive Vice President Rob Coppersmith issued the press release below in response to proposals in the Legislature to put in place a state gas tax holiday. A three-month holiday would pull an estimated $600 million out of road funding, and that money pays the crews who build Michigan’s roads.
We’re asking you to share this with your employees, along with one simple ask: contact your state legislators and tell them to vote NO on any gas tax holiday.

Find your State Senator: senate.michigan.gov/senators/find-your-senator
Enter your full home address to find your legislators and their contact information. Using only a ZIP code may give you the wrong result, because many ZIP codes cross district lines.

Subject: Please vote NO on a gas tax holiday
Dear [Representative/Senator] [Last Name],
As your constituent and someone who works in Michigan’s road construction industry, I’m asking you to vote NO on any gas tax holiday.
Michigan’s gas tax pays for our roads, and it pays the workers who build them. A three-month holiday would take an estimated $700 million out of road funding, with no plan to replace it. That means fewer projects, fewer jobs and real paychecks at risk for families like mine.
Please protect the road funding the Legislature worked so hard to pass.
Thank you,
