As part-time Executive Assistant to Mike Nystrom, MITA’s Executive Vice President, Janis is the person to reach out to if you wish to schedule a meeting with him or if you need to reach him immediately. She also handles the administrative duties regarding labor relations and the MITA building.
As Membership Services Coordinator, Sara handles new member processing. She is the go-to person for things such as MISS DIG complaints, blue book rates, membership verification and a variety of other MITA services. She is responsible for assisting prospective members through the application process, as well as creating awareness of the different types of services available to the MITA membership. Sara also works closely with the Accounting Coordinator to ensure that dues invoicing and processing information matches the records kept in the member database. In addition, Sara coordinates all issues regarding labor relations with Mike Nystrom, MITA’s Executive Vice President.
As Accounting Coordinator, Mary handles all financial compliance regarding accounts, dues, invoices, etc. Mary is the person to talk to regarding any questions pertaining to dues and billing.
As Event Coordinator, Danielle’s main responsibility is to manage and organize each of MITA’s many social, leadership and educational events. She also manages the MITA calendar and the meeting space we provide to other associations. She assists the Director of Safety & Workforce Development with the MIOSHA appeals process and other safety-related services. Danielle manages and coordinates the MITA website and member database, as well. She is your primary contact for all meeting/event questions/reservations, as well as questions related to the database and website.
As Director of Strategic Affairs, Mariam wears a lot of hats at MITA. She works to increase member interactions with elected officials by consistently communicating MITA’s position on important legislative issues to the membership, which requires Mariam to regularly interact with the MITA lobbying team. On the communications side, she manages MITA’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts, and works with the Director of Communications to make print and website outreach efforts as effective as possible. She is also the lead staff person on the Fix MI State campaign, a public relations initiative to raise awareness for the state’s unmet infrastructure needs. She also handles administrative duties related to the MITA Board of Directors. Mariam works closely with the Event Coordinator to manage the website and member database, as well. Mariam works directly with the Executive Vice President to manage and execute special projects, as well as to process administrative tasks. In conjunction with the Vice President of Government Affairs, Mariam works hard to maintain the MITA PAC and to ensure that it grows strong year after year. Mariam is the person to contact if you need assistance in scheduling a meeting with your legislators, if you want to communicate a legislative issue or concern to MITA’s lobbyists, if you want to make a contribution to the MITA PAC, if you want to participate in a MITA special project or if you just want to find out more information about any of the above.
Ken came to MITA from South Dakota State University, where he spent many years teaching construction courses to undergraduates. As MITA’s Director of Workforce Development, Ken is the lead staff member on all MITA efforts to establish and sustain a program to recruit and retain talent for the industry.
As Director of Safety & Compliance, Matt is the go-to person for MITA job site inspections and training opportunities, as well as any MIOSHA, OSHA or MSHA appeals and compliance issues. Matt is a former U.S. Marine and took part in OSHA certification classes for heavy equipment during his 10 years in the United States Marine Corps. Having completed four deployments: two in Iraq and two in Southeast Asia for anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations, Matt is used to getting the job done under tight deadlines, intense pressure and high expectations.
As Director of Communications, Nancy produces the two major MITA print publications: CrosSection, our quarterly magazine, and the Annual Membership Directory. Nancy is a former journalist and public relations professional, and she is the main contact for stories and advertising in the MITA CrosSection Magazine, as well as the Annual Membership Directory. In addition, Nancy assists MITA’s Executive Vice President and Vice President of Government Affairs with MITA’s public/media relations. You can also call on Nancy with any questions you may have related to your own company’s public relations and marketing issues.
As Vice President of Industry Relations, Rachelle provides professional expertise in many areas of the industry, including resolving construction issues related to publicly and privately funded projects; expanding workforce development; working with utility companies and contractors to minimize construction impacts and delays; various labor relations; and advocates on behalf of MITA members with other industry organizations.
As Vice President of Government Affairs, Lance manages political and legislative concerns on behalf of MITA. He is a registered lobbyist with the State of Michigan and spends a good portion of his time working tirelessly on issues that are important to the industry and the membership at the Capitol in Lansing. Due to Lance’s hard work and experience, MITA has a solid working relationship with every legislator in the House and Senate. Lance also oversees all MITA PAC expenditures.
As Vice President of Engineering Services and a licensed professional engineer, Glenn brings over 30 years of transportation-related experience to MITA in the areas of construction, design, specifications, materials testing and research. Glenn serves as the industry’s lead liaison with MDOT, FHWA, USDOL, MDEQ and county and local agencies. As Vice President of Membership Services, Rob oversees the many services that are offered to MITA members, including MIOSHA appeals, job site inspections, utility locating issues, educational opportunities, meetings and all social functions. Additionally, he participates in labor relations activities on behalf of the members.
As Executive Vice President/Secretary, Mike oversees all operations, staff and services at MITA. He implements policies based on his interaction with the MITA Board of Directors and the membership and he prudently manages the organization’s resources within approved annual budget guidelines. Mike also continues to work as a registered lobbyist, serves as an industry resource on labor matters, and acts as the spokesman for the industry on a variety of issues.
