MEMORANDUM
RE: Contact Your Legislator Month
Our industry is facing challenging times – declining budgets and a complete evaporation of private and residential work. The result of these challenges is an unprecedented decline in available work for our industry. The only way to break this cycle is for the industry to secure additional transportation and infrastructure investment, which can only be achieved through the enactment of new legislation.
With so many new faces in the Legislature, it is imperative that MITA continues to protect the heavy construction industry. This can be accomplished through promotion of real funding solutions that will increase investment in Michigan’s infrastructure and bring with it a resurgence of the much needed jobs for our industry.
The stakes for the industry are high, making it important that each of us take on the responsibility of explaining to our legislators why funding for Michigan’s infrastructure is so important to the vitality of Michigan’s manufacturing, agriculture and tourism industries, all key sectors that drive Michigan’s economy. With the multitude of issues that our elected officials are facing, it is impossible for them to be experts on every issue. This provides each of us with an opportunity to make ourselves a trusted resource to our elected officials on the issue of transportation investment.
It is for these reasons and others that MITA is requesting that each of us use the month of March to reach out to your legislators and collectively use March as “Contact Your Legislator Month.”
Please contact Nicole Cook, outreach coordinator for MITA, at (517) 347-8336 or nicolecook@mi-ita.com, and she will coordinate each of your legislative meetings on your behalf.
