DEQ Looking to Change Groundwater Rules

Construction dewatering could be affected.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is seeking to review and revise the Water Well Construction and Pump Installation Code.

The department has recently contacted MITA to seek comments about their desire to update, modify or add to their present regulations. The groundwater withdrawal changes could specifically affect “temporary dewatering during construction”, as outlined in a memo to MITA dated April 23, 2007. Click here to view.

As the heavy construction industry’s voice in state government, MITA is soliciting your comments so that we can most effectively represent you. Please take a moment to consider how changes in the groundwater rules may affect you or which changes we may want to consider as a benefit of our industry. Forward your thoughts to Mike Nystrom or Keith Ledbetter before the June 1, 2007 deadline.

If you have any questions, please contact Mike Nystrom, Vice President of Government & Public Relations at mikenystrom@mi-ita.com or Keith Ledbetter, Director of Legislative Affairs at keithledbetter@mi-ita.com, or call the MITA office at (517) 347-8336.
