Gearing Up For May 5, 2015: Are You Registered & Ready To Vote?

This May, the industry and the entire state of Michigan have a huge opportunity to invest in roads and getting out the YES vote will play a huge role in ensuring success. It’s already February, so May is just around the corner. It’s imperative that everyone who is NOT registered to vote registers by Monday, April 6, 2015.

Click here to access the voter registration application, a list of local clerk’s addresses and step-by-step instructions on how to get registered.

It’s also important that anyone wishing to obtain an absentee voter ballot submit their request in writing to their local clerk’s office as soon as possible. Remember that there are six potential qualifiers to obtain an absentee voter ballot, and you must include one in your written request, along with your signature:

1. age 60 years old or older
2. unable to vote without assistance at the polls
3. expecting to be out of town on Election Day
4. in jail awaiting arraignment or trial
5. unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons
6. appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence

Additionally, you can request an absentee voter ballot in writing by submitting any of the following to your local clerk’s office by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015:

1. an application that you can obtain online at www.mi.gov/sos
2. a letter
3. a postcard
4. a pre-printed application form obtained from your local clerk’s office

This election will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. On this day, every registered Michigan voter will have the opportunity to vote YES on Proposal 1, a multi-piece legislative plan that will raise $1.2 billion in additional investment for roads, while securing and adding to funding for schools and local governments at the same time. This is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved, but it requires that a majority of voters color in the YES circle on their ballots on Election Day.

Please make sure that you, your family members, employees and co-workers are registered to vote, that you know where your polling station is, that you have submitted an application for an absentee voter ballot if you need one, and that you have firm plans to vote on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 for the betterment of Michigan. Remember that your vote is your voice, and it DOES make a difference!
