MDOT recently announced the appointment of Kimberly Avery to the position of Deputy Region Engineer for the Metro Region.
In Kim’s 23 years with the Michigan Department of Transportation she has developed a strong command of the federal, state, and local programs and relationships that impact the operation of the Region and its Transportation Service Centers as a result her extensive experience working in all the major areas of the department’s highway operations business, including assignments as a construction engineer, a maintenance engineer, a TSC development engineer and project manager, as the Metro Region Associate for Development and, for the past 9 years, as Taylor TSC Manager.
Kim consistently demonstrates strong leadership skills and the abilities to perform strategic planning, goal setting and execution of strategic direction. Kim’s influence extends well beyond the limits of her job duties, most notably through her active involvement in the TRAC program and as the Michigan Chapter President of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). Kim has contributed significantly to numerous teams that have received AASHTO and NPHQ awards, and she was a recipient of the Director’s Award in 2011.
Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.
