LEO Overhauls State Prevailing Wage Job Classifications

The Wage & Hour Division of the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity (LEO) is overhauling its state prevailing wage job classifications by consolidation. LEO’s stated objective for the change is to have smaller rate tables, clearer choices, and hopefully fewer mistakes in bidding, payroll, and compliance.

Effective November 1, 2025, rate tables will be streamlined to around 55 classifications per county, reducing current listed rates by about two-thirds. Job titles will be standardized, and duplicate classifications consolidated. LEO states that this approach aligns with the U.S. Department of Labor and consolidation methods used by states like Minnesota, Oregon, and New York.

The new job classifications can be found here: LEO Prevailing Wage Job Classifications
