As you may know, the Michigan Legislature begins its summer break on Tuesday, June 30th through Thursday, July 9th and even beyond that time, there isn’t much that takes place over the summer months in Lansing on the legislative front. While during this time, your elected officials may not venture to Lansing very often and bills hang in limbo, their time away gives MITA members a great opportunity to meet with their elected officials in their districts.
While they are in the district (and closer to your homes) you can meet with them and continue to educate them on transportation, underground and infrastructure issues.
This presents another great opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for Michigan governor, the state Senate and state House seats, and where they stand on issues that are important to the industry. All persons running for these positions have already declared their intent to run, and the time for anyone else to join the race has passed. Ways to continue being proactive legislatively during the summer months are to:
- Meet with your elected official in his or her district.
- Host a candidate meet and greet in the district.
- Send an email to your elected official or candidate asking them where they stand on the issues important to you.
