NEW REPORT SHOWS MICHIGAN NEEDS AN ADDITIONAL $3.9B FOR ROADS AND BRIDGES

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023 MITA was joined by representatives from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Country Road Association of Michigan, the Detroit Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Municipal League to roll out a new report analyzing Michigan’s road infrastructure needs. Public Sector Consultants (PSC), a think tank in Lansing, prepared the report for MITA, which concluded that the state needs to invest an additional $3.9 billion annually under current revenues to maintain Michigan’s road and bridge network.

Several media outlets were in attendance during the press conference and reports will come out in the media over the next several weeks. Shortly after the press event, MITA staff presented the information to the House Transportation, Mobility and Infrastructure Committee, where solutions to our road funding shortfall will be debated and discussed this legislative term.

In the upcoming weeks, MITA will be formulating our Fix MI State Coalition of business, labor, tourism, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing and other key industries in Michigan to help spread our message of the need to find an equitable, long-term, sustainable road funding solution.

Eventually, it will take courage from our partners in the Legislature and the Governor to come together and finally get a solution in place that works for all of Michigan.
