Since MITA’s bulletin from a week ago, the following members have stepped up to pledge their support for the Road Rally at the Capitol on Wednesday, September 3rd. The details are being worked out at this moment.
Leverage wins arguments and debates. The rally will give the Governor and legislators continued support for the need for a “Long-Term Sustainable Road Funding Solution.” When it’s over, the legislature should be convinced of the seriousness of our situation. Politics is exhausting, and faith is low. But we are closer to a solution than we have ever been! Please find the strength to get through this budget cycle. Good or bad, we will know our circumstances on October 1 unless there is a Government shutdown.
To reiterate the importance of a good showing, if we do not have a tremendous showing at this event, the message could be devastating to our efforts. MITA expects thousands, not hundreds, of our union and nonunion members to show up at the Capitol. This is a market issue that will impact all of us; failure to obtain a funding solution will devastate them. The message is simple: “Save Our Jobs,” “Fund Our Roads!” A small group of professionals is working on the details with MITA and our industry partners to make the rally a success.
To be obvious. You can’t have a rally without shutting down jobs, especially public works jobs. MITA understands this comes at a cost. But will that one day outweigh the projected loss based on our current trajectory? Many of our members who own or operate HMA plants and some who own lime-stone, sand, and gravel operations have indicated that they will be halting operations for the day. We’re hoping this is a trend that can be embraced.
Compensating employees for attendance is another issue, and it carries an economic impact that each member must calculate and determine what is palatable. Many have stated that they do intend to compensate employees for the day.
Thank you in advance to those of you who have reached out! The following list is impressive, and MITA’s sincere hope is that you can find a way to be a part of this important day.
