RE: Operating Engineers Local 324 Exclusive Hiring Hall Letter
Recently you should have received a letter from Operating Engineers Local 324 regarding their Exclusive Hiring Hall plan. Click here for plan. This is a new, sincere initiative by Local 324 to better serve the signatory contractors throughout the industry.
However, you should understand that this hiring hall provision only applies to those collective bargaining agreements where hiring hall language has been negotiated into the contract. Therefore, the guidelines and information requested in the recent letter only apply to those contractors who are signatory to the following agreements with the Operating Engineers Local 324: Associated General Contractors (AGC), Construction Association of Michigan (CAM), Great Lakes Fabricators & Erectors Association (GLFEA) and the MITA Utility Distribution Agreement.
At this point, the hiring hall provision DOES NOT APPLY to the MITA Underground and Road Agreements. Therefore, to be clear, contractors who are signatory to these agreements have no responsibility to submit the requested information at this time, nor to follow the suggested hiring guidelines put forth in the letter.
