The state of Michigan through The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) announced that they are releasing a grant to employers (individual companies) through Michigan Works! Agencies (MWA) to assist in training employees. Training programs must be short-term and fill a demonstrated talent need experienced by the employer. Employers interested must provide an anticipated number of new hires after February 2 and are allowed if chosen as one of the recipients to do any of the following:
1. Classroom/Customized training – up to $1,500 per person
or
2. On-the-Job training – up to $1,500 per person
or
3. USDOL Registered Apprenticeship training – up to $3,000 per person
Increase in pay after the training is not a requirement and apprenticeship is not a requirement to receive funding. Funding will not be released until the time of training, and it is better to anticipate a higher number of employees. If the final number trained falls short of the estimated number at the time of grant application, you will only receive funding for the employees actually trained. The final number trained cannot exceed your initial estimate.
