Chief Operations Officer Gregg Brunner has announced Jason Gutting as the new director of the Bureau of Field Services. Gutting has served as the engineer of Construction Field Services since February 2016 and brings more than 24 years of experience and leadership with the State of Michigan to his new role.
As the engineer of Construction Field Services, Gutting guided the development of standards, specifications, and processes to improve quality and statewide alignment in construction, pavements, and materials. Prior to working in construction, he worked as the system operations engineer, where he worked on implementing the department’s operation focus and attended the National Operations Academy. He brings a strong background in construction, partnering and operations to the position.
Throughout his career, Gutting has presented strong leadership qualities, holding positions as engineer of Construction Operations, system operations engineer, statewide operations engineer, contracts management engineer, and the Lansing TSC construction engineer. He’s an MDOT Director’s Award recipient, serves on multiple transportation industry committees, and is active with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Prior to coming to MDOT, he worked for private industry as a project engineer.
Gutting has a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Michigan State University and is a licensed professional engineer with the state of Michigan.
