While no definitive action has been taken, you should know that the political process regarding road funding and our impending funding cliff is in full swing. Two Fridays ago our Governor challenged the legislature to develop legislation to avoid the road funding revenue cliff. Which, in MITA’s estimation has already begun. Shortly after that challenge incoming Speaker of the House Matt Hall signaled that he has ideas on how to fund our roads with a seemingly annual 2.7 Billion dollars that takes mostly existing state revenues and shifts them to roads, something Democrats have an issue with. They would rather see new revenues passed to support a long-term road funding plan. So by all accounts, our Governor, the Legislature, and both sides of the aisle are interested in solving this issue. If they can all get along this December we might just see the positive results we’ve been working towards for the last several years.
A read of the following will help you keep up to speed. Please understand this is just the beginning of the negotiations and what you read may or will vary vastly from what happens in the end and only a small selection of several articles and interviews that have been given or written about our issue.
