It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Vaccarelli, following a very heroic battle with lymphatic cancer, on June 28, 2019. He was 80 years old.
A former U.S. Marine, Don was a long time tunnel construction superintendent who, over the years, built numerous underground projects with Mancini Construction, Greenfield Construction, and as a partner in Merriman Construction.
In the words of a long-time friend, Don was one of the true “tunnel stiffs” who never was satisfied unless he had a lagging board in one hand and an air spade in the other. He inspired many who worked with him, and they say he was truly one of the last of a dying breed. He will be greatly missed.
Don was the beloved husband of Bonnie for 55 wonderful years. He was a loving father to Pamela Vaccarelli and Gina (Scott) Vaccarelli – Plonka. He was the dearest Nonno of Vincenzo Anthony Vartanian and Bella Sophia Plonka. He was the Great Nonno of Lola Lucille Vartanian and the dear brother of John (Cynthia) Vaccarelli. Don was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Louis Vaccarelli.
