With the goal of eliminating work zone injuries and deaths, MDOT is proud to participate in the 2024 National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW), which runs April 15-19.

  • The work zone awareness news conference event will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 15, at Dow Diamond in Midland.
  • The event will feature key speakers from: Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Michigan State Police (MSP), Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA), and Dow.
  • The event will honor the workers, motorists and families of those killed in work zones this past year.
  • Dow will also be hosting several vendors from our industry that will showcase different lifesaving traffic control devices and processes.

What it is: NWZAW is an annual public awareness campaign held each spring to educate road users and workers about the importance of work zone safety. The campaign encourages safe driving and using extra caution in work zones.

Why it matters: MDOT’s goal is zero road fatalities and serious injuries. By slowing down, obeying signs, minimizing distractions, and working safely, we can ensure that drivers, passengers, and workers make it home to their loved ones every day.

Show your support: Purchase your own MDOT work zone apparel. Visit MDOT Work Zone Awareness and submit your order. Orders are due by end of day Monday, March 18 and will be shipped directly to you.

The bottom line: Together, we can achieve the safety goal of zero deaths in our work zones and on our roads!
