The Michigan Department of Transportation has released a new Power Unit Only Construction Equipment annual permit. This new permit type will allow those who own multiple pieces of construction equipment, along with the trucks and trailers, to now purchase a single permit for the power unit (truck). This will allow them to use various combinations of trailers and construction equipment without requiring separate permits for those trailers or construction equipment.
These permits are limited to hauling construction equipment, and the maximum dimensions are up to 12’6” wide, 14’ tall, and 85’ long. The gross overall weight for these permits is 150,000 pounds with no single axle over 24,000 pounds.
These permits are now available for purchase at $264.00 and are compliant with MCL 257.725 as amended by Public Act 17 of 2018.
