MITA staff were recently successful in negotiations with MDOT leadership on a significant three-part pay item proposal. The three-part proposal presented by MITA and accepted by MDOT included the following elements:
I. Increase the “Mobilization, Max” pay item from the current 5% (of the Engineers Estimate) to 10%.
II. Remove the maximum lump sum amounts recently established for the “Minor Traffic Devices” and “Flag Control” pay items.
III. Establish a ‘per diem’ pay unit for the pay items “Minor Traffic Devices” ($900/day) and “Flag Control” ($650/day) that will be utilized during an approved extension of time.
MDOT’s acceptance of MITA’s proposal included the following implementation plan:
a. The “Mobilization, Max” pay item increase will be effective with projects let in the December 1, 2006 letting.
b. The removal of the maximum lump sum caps on the “Minor Traffic Devices” and “Flag Control” pay items will be effective starting with projects let in the January 5, 2007 letting.
c. The ‘per diem’ pay units of $900/day for “Minor Traffic Devices”, and $650/day for “Flag Control” to be used for extending those contract items during an approved extension of time, will be effective on all projects let on and after the January 5, 2007 letting.
All other traffic control items will be paid for, and extended during an approved extension of time, in accordance with the MDOT standard specifications or the contract documents.
These long sought, industry significant pay item changes will benefit MITA members that work on MDOT projects, local agency projects let through MDOT, as well as, local agency and private development projects that reference the MDOT standard specifications.
