Prevailing Wage for Skid Steer Operators, Guardrail Builders, and Slope Restoration

MDOT continues their focus on prevailing wage compliance.  They have asked MITA to distribute the following information as a reminder about the payment of prevailing wages for the following wage determinations:

Guardrail Builders

MDOT has noticed an increased number of “guardrail builder’s tenders” constructing guardrail without the presence of “guardrail builders” on site.  It should be noted that when assembling guardrail the make-up of a guardrail crew should not be only made up of “guardrail builder’s tenders”.  There must be “guardrail builders” on site that the “tenders” are assisting.

The applicable wage classifications for these laborers are as follows:
LABO0465-001 Group 1 – guardrail builder’s tender
LABO0465-001 Group 3 – guardrail builders

Also, when using a power driven post driver to drive the guardrail post, MDOT wants to remind the contracting industry that guardrail post driver operator is covered under the following wage classification:

ENGI0324-006 Group 5 – “guardrail post driver operator” (power driven)

Slope Restoration

When performing slope restoration for roadway or highway work the appropriate labor classification is:

LABO0465-001 Group 1 – “miscellaneous laborer”

The classification for LABO0334-001 Group 7 – “restoration laborer” is only applicable to slope restoration outside the influence of the roadway and should not be used for road or bridge work restoration.

Skid Steer Operators

The operation of a skid steer is covered by the following power equipment operators classification: ENGI0324-006 Group 5.
