Beginning today, motor carrier officers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) will be conducting inspections at weigh station facilities and in rest area locations throughout the state with a focus on ensuring commercial motor vehicle cargo is properly secured.
Running through Thursday, June 8, the effort is part of the 30th Annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Roadcheck Operation.
It also coincides with Gov. Rick Snyder declaring today, June 6, “Secure Your Load Day” in Michigan. Objects not fastened in or attached to a vehicle can be very dangerous and can cause significant damage to other vehicles and drivers, including death.
During CVSA’s International Roadcheck Operation, a Level I inspection, will be conducted on all commercial motor vehicles. It includes an interview with the driver, review of required documentation and full inspection of vehicle components. This will not change the standard of the Level I inspection, but will allow motor carrier officers to highlight cargo securement safety.
