We are pleased to announce that Tony Kratofil has been named MDOT’s new chief operations officer and chief engineer. Tony brings a wealth of managerial and technical experience to the position. In his most recent assignment as the Metro Region engineer, he was able to effectively negotiate very complex and sensitive mitigation measures with the City of Detroit resulting from the proposed Gordie Howe International Bridge project. His strong relationships helped complete the needed road jurisdiction transfers, community access issues, property transfers, and job training issues. Tony is known as a strategist and established a Metro Region strategic plan founded upon leadership, teamwork, and innovation. He recently led the charge to deliver phases 2 and 3 of the I -75 modernization project to letting. Through his leadership, the proposed 20-year build out will be advanced to four years and includes the innovative approach of a design-build-finance-maintain contracting delivery method. Tony has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Michigan and has more than 19 years of managerial experience. Please welcome Tony to his new position.
