Governor Whitmer addressed the state at 10:15 am this morning to provide an update on the COVID-19 pandemic. During the question and answer period she was asked about MITA’s request for construction to be considered non-essential so that our people can stay home, stay safe and so we can help minimize the spread of this virus. The Governor said that she has not yet made a decision on MITA’s request and that she and her staff are still discussing it internally.
As many have asked about the status of projects, things should be considered business as usual for those that are underway, while using safe protocols that the state and MITA have provided guidance on, until we get a clear directive. As we continue to have dialogue with MDOT and the Governor’s office, we will update our members immediately when new information becomes available.
