At 12:00 a.m. today (Friday, June 1, 2018), the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 324 (OE) and the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA), commonly referred to within the industry as the MITA/OE Road Agreement, expired.
Although the industry, through MITA, has made several attempts to initiate negotiations with the OE, the union has refused to meet.
At this point, no formal work stoppage has occurred anywhere across the state.
As of first thing this morning, MITA has offered the attached letter to the CBA in order to keep employees working, collecting paychecks and receiving benefits.
If the union comes to you directly and asks to sit down independently with your company, please use attached letter to officially notify them that MITA is bargaining on behalf of your company.
Please send a signed copy of theattached letter to the MITA office via email to Mariam Robinson at mariamrobinson@thinkmita.org.
As things continue to develop, we will notify you as quickly as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mike Nystrom at mikenystrom@thinkmita.org or by calling 517-896-1493.
